Philosophy, Aim and Objectives

The philosophy of the Department of Nursing is rooted in the belief that nursing is both a science and an art dedicated to caring for individuals, families, and communities. We believe that every human being deserves compassionate, holistic, and professional care that promotes health, prevents illness, and restores well-being. Nursing education at Dominion University emphasizes critical thinking, ethical practice, and lifelong learning as the foundation for professional excellence.

Aims and Objectives

  • To produce competent, compassionate, and ethical nurses capable of providing quality healthcare in diverse settings.
  • To integrate theory, practice, and research in preparing students for leadership roles in nursing and healthcare delivery.
  • To instill values of empathy, integrity, and professionalism in future nurses.
  • To foster innovation and problem-solving in addressing contemporary health challenges.
  • To prepare graduates for postgraduate studies and global opportunities in nursing practice and education.
 

Admission Requirement

Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)

Candidates who wish to study Nursing must have obtained a credit in Mathematics and English Language plus credit pass in either chemistry, biology, physics and other two subjects at the SSCE, NECO, GCE or their equivalent not more than two sittings.

Direct Entry

Candidates for Direct Entry admission shall possess five credit passes in the SSCE, NECO, GCE or equivalents of which at least two shall be at advanced level, or four credit passes of which at least three shall be at advanced level provided that such passes are not counted at both levels of the examinations. For emphasis, credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Biology and Chemistry is compulsory.

Graduation Requirements

In order to qualify for graduation from any of the undergraduate degree programs in the Department,  the student must have met the following requirements:

a) Been duly admitted for the degree programme.

b) Been matriculated into the University.

c) Passed all compulsory and required courses in the programme of study, as well as elective courses.

d) Accumulated the minimum number of credit units prescribed for the award of the degree.

e) Successfully completed and submitted a Research Project report.

f) Obtained a CGPA of not less than 1.50.
