Brief Description
Dr. Godwin Edet Oduokpaha is a Nigerian microbiologist, academic, and researcher with expertise spanning food and industrial microbiology, microbial genomics, bacterial physiology, and food safety. He is a Lecturer in the Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology at Dominion University, Ibadan, Nigeria, and currently a doctoral candidate in Genome Science and Technology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he also serves as a Graduate Research Assistant. He holds a PhD and MSc in Industrial Microbiology from the University of Ibadan and a BSc in Microbiology and Biotechnology from Caritas University. He was a Fulbright Visiting Researcher at North Carolina State University, where he expanded his experience in food and bioprocessing sciences and international research collaboration.

His research has focused on indigenous food fermentation, probiotic microorganisms, and the characterization of yeasts with desirable traits for safer and more controlled fermentation. His current work investigates the role of the dehydrogenase GnnA in the stress tolerance, physiology, and pathogenesis of Campylobacter jejuni, with the broader goal of identifying microbial vulnerabilities relevant to food safety, disease prevention, and antimicrobial stewardship. Beyond research, Dr. Oduokpaha contributes to teaching, student mentorship, peer review, research integrity initiatives, and scientific engagement through professional societies and international conferences.
