DU holds her 4th Matriculation Ceremony: Rescuing Nigeria’s Educational Sector
On the 21st of February 2023, Dominion University held its 4th Matriculation Ceremony with great pomp and pageantry. The air was filled with excitement and anticipation as parents, guardians, and matriculating students gathered to witness the formal induction of new students into the institution.
The ceremony was made even more special with the delivery of the Matriculation Lecture by none other than Professor Francis Egbokhare, a renowned Professor of Linguistics and African Languages at the University of Ibadan. Professor Egbokhare, who also serves on the Governing Council of Dominion University, spoke on the theme “Rescuing the Educational Sector in Nigeria: The Role of Private Universities.”
In his thought-provoking lecture, Professor Egbokhare highlighted the importance of private universities in complementing the efforts of the government in ensuring quality education in Nigeria. He emphasized the need for private universities to continue to raise the bar in terms of academic excellence, research, and innovation.
The ceremony was not just about lectures and speeches; it was also a celebration of the bright minds that had just been admitted into Dominion University. These matriculating students were referred to as “Day Stars” by the Chancellor of Dominion University, Bishop Taiwo Adelakun. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abel Olorunnisola, described “Day Stars” as a poetic word for the sun – the light-bringer.
