The meeting commenced at 1pm with the arrival of the guests; members of the Planning and Implementation Committee (PIC) of Dominion University, members of the Board of Trustees and other staff members. The Dominion University delegation was duly welcomed first by the Director of Publications, University of Ibadan: Mr. Oladejo, who received the whole team and gave audience to the Chancellor of Dominion University, Bishop T.V. Adelakun, to introduce the Dominion University Delegation. Bishop T.V. first expressed gratitude for the privilege of such a meeting and went ahead to introduce members of his team; Pastor (Mrs) Dolapo Adelakun, visionary and member of PIC, the Interim VC, Prof Adedoyin Soyibo, Dr. Osasona, Dr. Joe Akoun, Elder Bode Oyelami; members of the Board of Trustees, Barr. O.I. Aleru and Barr.A.A. Adetoyinbo-liaison officers, Mr Lekan Dada, the Web Master and Mr Abiola Oladele, the P.A. to the Chancellor. In response, Mr. Oladejo from UI introduced the Vice Chancellor of UI, Prof Abel IdowuOlayinka, Prof Adebowale, Dr Helen Opadeji, Prof J.O Babalola and the Deputy Registrar, Mr Oluwole Dada.
The Chancellor of Dominion University, Bishop T.V. Adelakun gave his introductory address on the progress of Dominion University since its licensing on February 5th, 2019 at Abuja-a 13 year journey. He also reiterated the position of University of Ibadan as the mentoring University. He spoke on the anchor of Dominion University as a vision by God to provide a solution to the rotten educational system in Nigeria, and as such Dominion University is in the pursuit of a clear cut mandate, which is now at the point of execution. A copy of the Nigerian Universities’ Commission letter given to Dominion University was given to the Vice Chancellor of U.I. Bishop Adelakun also reiterated three main requests from the Vice Chancellor of UI namely;
- The need for adjunct UI staff lecturers for the first five years
- Need for the database of U.I.’s spill over un-admitted students for admissions leverage.
- Access to UI’s Library and related facilities for Dominion University students and
- Expert advisory role from UI from Dominion University principal officers when required.
The Vice Chancellor of UI, Prof Abel Idowu Olayinka, expressed pleasure and confidence in the team members of Dominion University, particularly, Prof Soyibo who is well known to him and one of the most savvy persons he had come across. He reeled out some accolades of Prof Soyibo’s work experience in UI and congratulated Dominion University for having such a man at the helm of affairs. He noted that globally, UI is reckoned for their culture of excellence and admonished that same be put in perspective for Dominion University. He noted that Dominion University being a private institution, has an advantage over public institutions, as it can cure the menace of disrupted academic calendars, and if it can afford it, make use of the best staffers available, even foreigners. He mentioned that UI is a mentor to about 14 universities currently, such as Tai Solarin College of Education, Federal College of Education, Abeokuta, Adeleke University, Ede, Osun State, St. Augustine University, Lagos, Rivers State College of Education, University of Jos to mention a few.
Prof Olayinka assured that UI will render all the necessary support needed by and heed to all the requests made by Dominion University, especially since he knows Prof Soyibo and Prof Egbokhare well from the University of Ibadan experience.
There was a presentation of gifts to the Chancellor and Vice Chancellor of Dominion University by Prof Olayinka, the Vice Chancellor of UI. The meeting ended with group photographs taken of the principal members of both universities present.
