Dominion University inaugurates Prof Olorunnisola as new VC
DOMINION University, Ibadan has installed Professor Abel Olajide Olorunnisola as its substantive vice-chancellor, taking over from Dr Jonah Akoun, who had been serving in that position in acting capacity.
Professor Olorunnisola was inaugurated by the chancellor of Dominion University, who is also the presiding Bishop of Victory International Church, Ibadan, Dr Taiwo Victor Adelakun, at a ceremony in the institution’s campus in Ibadan.
Dr Adelakun, in a charge on the occasion, expressed the hope that Professor Olorunnisola would key into the vision of the university as an interpreter of the vision of establishing the institution and that his time would usher in growth and development.
Bishop Adelakun, who also charged the new governing board as well as students of the university, said there would be no compromise on Christian values in Dominion University and advised the students to “be teachable and malleable” and to subdue the cravings of the flesh as “nothing unclean shall see God.”
To the vice chancellor, he said: “An interpreter of a vision must listen to the visioner. As long as that synergy is there, success is inevitable. By February 2022, we hope to grow to become a 1,000-student institution. We have the facility to take that number of students. That is why I made it very clear so that we can have the number we are working towards.”
The chancellor said the choice of Professor Olorunnisola was a result of head-hunting for a dynamic, young professor who is Godly, pointing out that “it came as a result of head-hunting for somebody that can run and drive the vision.”
He also charged the members of staff of the institution to cooperate with the management to achieve the vision of making the university a world class institution, saying “no to any form of abuse of students. All our work must be channeled to making the students better academics and better Christians.”
