Vice-Chancellor's profile

Professor Abel Olajide Olorunnisola holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree in Agricultural Engineering (1989) as well as Master’s (1992) and PhD (1997) degrees in Wood Products Engineering.

He also holds a professional Diploma in Management, obtained from the Nigerian Institute of Management in 1999. He joined the services of the University of Ibadan (UI) on January 2, 1993 and rose through the ranks to become a full professor on October 1, 2006.

He served as the Dean of the Postgraduate School of UI between 2010 and 2014, when he concurrently served as the Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Ibadan Branch (2010 – 2011) and President of Materials Science and Technology Society of Nigeria ( 2010 –2014).

He also served as the pioneer Head of Department of Wood Products Engineering between 2017 and 2021 when he concurrently served as the Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered), Ibadan Branch. He was also a member of the Governing Council of UI between 2019 and 2021.

Prof Olorunnisola is registered as an engineer by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and holds the fellowships of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Nigerian Institute of Management and Materials Science and Technology Society of Nigeria.

His core areas of research expertise include environmental management and renewable energy studies, development of sustainable materials for building construction, and development of affordable agricultural processing machines using indigenous wood species for machine parts fabrication.

He is currently a member of the International Network for Bamboo & Rattan (INBAR) Expert Taskforces on Bamboo for Renewable Energy, Rattan Uses and Development and Sustainable Bamboo Development. He is also a member of different International Organisation for Standards (ISO) Technical Committees on Bamboo and Rattan standards -ISO/TC 296. He assumed duty as the Vice-Chancellor of Dominion University on November 1, 2021.
